Funny Name: Stella! Stella! Edition

Why do I have a feeling that Jill McCulloh's recipe for Christ the Rock Lutheran Church 10 Year Anniversary Family Recipes (1999) is her attempt to justify her decision to major in English or theater?

Hey, you gotta use that degree for something! Might as well be naming a recipe.

  1. That doesn't appear to be low fat like your last posts from this book. It's definitely not low sugar, although nobody had a problem with sugar in the 90s, it was the fat that was going to kill you. Oh how things have changed. Maybe we'll live to see the day when meat and fat are health foods.

    1. I think it was mostly Gwen Weiland who was concerned about fat. I seriously overrepresented her offerings in that book (even though I didn't consciously intend to). I notice that there's often a specific contributor in regional books that I unconsciously gravitate toward and only pick up on the pattern when I start deciding what to scan. I've got a certain taste in old recipes, and the contributors to the community cookbooks often have a more coherent cooking style than one might suspect.
